Restaurant review: Takara
Posted: February 11th, 2006 | Author: amake | Filed under: Diatribes | No Comments »There are two prominent Japanese restaurants on State St., Madison, WI. One is Wasabi. It is very good. The other is Takara, which as I confirmed for the umpteenth time today, is very bad.
I’ve boiled down my experience into a couple points of advice for the management at Takara:
- Playing awful 70′s bubblegum high-pitched Japanese music does not make you a Japanese restaurant.
- In order for you to be a Japanese restaurant, you must serve Japanese food. On that note, I regret to inform you that none of the following ingredients belong in katsudon:
- pea pods
- mushrooms
- takuan
- carrots
On the plus side, your sushi was passable. Not good, but passable.
- It’s not a requirement, but it would help if you had even one Japanese employee.
- If you want more than a 5% tip, please get less surly waitresses.
I give Takara 0.3 thumbs up. Better luck next time.
